McPherson def. Dordt 8-3
HOW IT HAPPENED
Four late runs by the host McPherson Bulldogs gave them an 8-3 win over the Dordt Defenders in non-conference baseball on Saturday afternoon in McPherson, Kansas.
The hosts scored two runs on three hits in the first inning and Dordt didn’t have an answer until the third inning when Andrew Pullar was hit by a pitch and Alexander Chavez reached on a walk. A walk to Steve Tiersma loaded the bases and Logan tripled with one out to clear the bases and put Dordt up 3-2.
In the home half of the fourth McPherson scored two runs on two hits to lead 4-3 and then scored four unearned runs in the fifth inning to lead 8-3.
The Defenders threatened with two hits in the sixth inning with two outs but couldn’t get the runs in to make it interesting.
Both teams had seven hits.
Willem Hoekstra pitched four and a third innings and took the loss and got charged with seven runs as he left the fifth inning with runners on base. He struck out one and walked two with five hits allowed.
Justin Bond came on in relief and pitched an inning and two-thirds and struck out two.
Chavez had a double and single with a base on balls.
Logan Cline had three runs batted in with his triple and John Emerson, Anthony Klinzing, Tyce Marquez and Andrew Pullar all had singles.
Dordt is now 1-5 and is scheduled to face Midland in GPAC play at the end of this week in a pair of GPAC doubleheaders.
