McPherson def. Dordt 17-3
HOW IT HAPPENED
The McPherson Bulldogs scored three in the first and eight in the third on the way to a 17-3 win over the Dordt Defenders on Saturday in game one of their doubleheader in Kansas.
Dordt got on the board with two in the fifth on a Steve Tiersma inside the park homerun after Alexander Chavez singled to start the inning. McPherson pulled away from the 11-2 lead with four more in the bottom of the fifth and tacked on two more in the sixth.
Dordt’s third and final ran came in the seventh when Alexander Chavez scored on a wild pitch.
Dordt had five hits with Chavez getting three of them with a double and two singles and he stole two bases.
Tiersma and Cam Pfafman accounted for Dordt’s other hits with Tiersma’s homerun and Pfafman’s single.
Logan Cline had two of Dordt’s four walks.
Dordt’s starter Isaac Vander Hart worked two innings and was charged with the loss.
Austin Johnson came on in relief and pitched two and a third innings and struck out four and allowed four hits and four runs.
Lucas Nelson pitched an inning and was charged with two earned runs and Peyton Stockwell recorded the final two outs of the sixth inning.
