Dordt defeats McPherson 20-6
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt Defender baseball team earned Nathan Bacon’s first win as a head coach in dominating fashion with a 20-6 win over the McPherson Bulldogs in game two of their doubleheader on Friday afternoon in McPherson, Kansas.
Dordt plated seven runs on six hits in the first inning with Luis Camacho tripling in two runs and Cam Pfafman got Camacho in with a single. John Emerson added a run scoring double and Andrew PUllar got credit for two runs batted in with a single.
After a scoreless half inning for McPherson Dordt added six runs on three hits in the second. Two of the runs scored on a John Emerson double and Willem Hoekstra had a two run double as well. A hit batsman and wild pitch helped account for two more Dordt runs.
Leading 13-0 the Defenders got a solo homerun by Logan Cline in the third inning and then added four more runs in the fourth with Camacho clubbing a three-run homerun . Tiersma doubled in two runs in the seventh inning to complete the Dordt scoring.
Dordt’s defense allowed two in the third and fourth and one each in the fifth and sixth.
Dordt had 17 hits and committed no errors.
Logan Horne pitched five innings and allowed five runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and two walks. Horne earned the win.
AJ Bosscher and Caleb Pollema each worked an inning in relief with Pollema recording three strikeouts in the seventh inning.
Camacho had a triple and homerun and knocked in five runs with three runs scored.
Cam Pfafman and John Emerson both had three hits and two runs scored apiece. Emerson knocked in three runs with two doubles and a single.
Tyce Marquez, Willem Hoekstra and Steve Tiersma all had two hits and Cline scored four runs and walked twice.
Dordt is now 1-3 and McPherson is 10-4.
Dordt will face McPherson again on Saturday starting at noon.
