McPherson def. Dordt 12-5
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt Defenders relinquished their lead in the fifth inning and lost a 12-5 non-conference decision in game one of their doubleheader with the McPherson Bulldogs in McPherson, Kansas.
The Defenders got a run in the second innig when Logan Cline singled, stole second and scored from second on a wild pitch.
Dordt added to the lead with a two-run third Luis Camacho singling in Steve Tiersma and Austin Pullar for a 3-0 lead. The hosts got on the board with a run on two hits in the third and took advantage of a Dordt error to get an unearned run in.
The Defenders answered in the fourth with Tiersma delivering a single that scored Tyce Marquez who had reached with a double. McPherson again had an answer scoring two runs on three hits in the fourth inning to get within 4-3.
Camacho provided Dordt its final run with a towering homerun in the fifth and Logan Cline followed with a double but was stranded at second when the inning came to an end.
McPherson erupted for nine runs on eight hits in the fifth inning and the two teams combined for just one hit over the next inning and a half as McPherson took the opener 12-5.
Dordt was outhit 12-5 and committed five errors in the loss.
Camacho, Cline and Tiersma all had two hits with Camacho scoring a run and knocking in three with a double and homerun. Cline had a double.
Alexander Chavez and Tyce Marquez each had singles and five different players scored a run.
Luke Drooger struck out six and allowed three earned runs out of five total allowed and walked two with seven hits allowed in four innings pitched.
Kevin Fokkema absorbed the loss and Jadon Vander Molen pitched an inning and a third in relief and both relievers struck out two.
