The Dordt Defenders sent a limited number of athletes to day one of the SDSU Indoor Classic at the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex in Brookings, South Dakota.
Dordt’s top individual finisher came in the men’s 5,000 meters where Eric Steiger ran a 15:05.45 to place fifth and he met the provisional standard for NAIA National Championship qualifying with the time.
The men’s distance medley relay team of Anthony Ghiorso, Matthew Van Eps, Trey Engen and Jacob Vander Plaats hit the automatic standard in the race with a second place time of 10:04.17. The time is a new school record in the event.
The women’s distance medley relay team also ran in the event and finished with a time of 12:33.41. The quartet consisted of Jordan Bos, Anmarie Stuit, Annika Rick and Sarah Wensink.
Races run on the abbreviated day included the women’s and men’s 3,000 meters, women’s and men’s 5,000 meters, women’s and men’s distance medley relays and the women’s and men’s 4x800 relays. Competition resumes on Saturday morning at 11:00.
