HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt Defender hockey team lost a 7-6 decision in MACHA play on Friday night, February 14 at Springfield, Illinois.
The Defenders built a 4-1 lead after two periods on goals by Logan Visser, Jacob Petrie (two) and Rylan Brue.
The Huskers came back quickly in the third period as they scored three goals to tie the game in the first 8:07 of the period and then took a two goal lead with goals at the 8:51 and 10:46 mark.
The Defenders recovered in time to get within a goal on a Rylan Brue score off assists from Logan Visser and Caleb Koomans and Visser scored the equalizer with a little over a minute left in regulation off an assist by Jaren Brue.
The teams went to overtime and Nebraska won it with a goal 1:10 into the extra session.
Visser, Petrie and Brue all had two goals and Visser had two assists along with Koomans and Collin O’Brien.
Dordt was outshot 45-30 and Bryce Andry had 38 saves in goal.
The Defenders have earned a spot in the ACHA Division 3 Pacific Regional to be played in Brookfield, Wisconsin on Friday and Saturday, March 6 and 7. Dordt needs to win two contests in the single elimination format to earn a spot at the ACHA Division 3 National Tournament in Texas.
