Dean White Invite
The Dordt Defender men’s cross country team won the Dean White Invite on Saturday, September 28 in Crete, Nebraska. The race was run on Doane University’s home course. The Defenders totaled 37 points while Doane was second with 50 points and Northwestern third with 94.
Doane’s Alec Wick won the race with a time of 25:55 and he had a teammate finish third in 26:37. Dordt’s first runner was Jacob Vander Plaats with a time of 26:38. The junior from Sioux Center was just in front of a wave of Defender runners with Josh Rupprecht, Anthony Ghiorso and Eric Steiger running sixth, seventh and eighth and the three were separated by one second at 26:43 and 26:44. Trey Engen, Nicolas Veldhorst and Davis Tebben ran 12, 13 and 14 and completed Dordt’s top-seven with a spread of just 27 seconds.
Eight teams and 105 runners competed in the race runner under the coolest conditions of the season.
Dordt will be off until Saturday, October 12 when the Defenders host a meet as part of Defender Days.

It was a great day for our men's team. We were able to hold off a very good Doane team to win the team title. The men showed their depth with four different runners racing in our top five compared to the first meet of the season. Monday we will go back to work and continue working towards the championship portion of the season.
