Dordt def. Corban 3-1 (25-22, 22-25, 25-15, 25-19)


The Dordt Defender volleyball team was a 3-1 winner over the Corban Warriors in a match up of nationally ranked teams in the De Witt Gym in Sioux Center, Iowa on Thursday night.

The match was Dordt’s first of the season while Corban was playing its second match in as many nights against a ranked team on the road.

Dordt led from start to finish in set one, building a 6-1 lead before Corban used its first time out.  The Warriors got back to within one point on two occasions, the last at 16-15. A Corrina Timmermans kill gave the Defenders a two point lead and Ally Krommendyk followed with a block for an 18-15 advantage. Dordt’s lead was at least two points the rest of the way and Jessi De Jager finished it with a kill for a 25-22 win.

Dordt was up 13-9 in set two  when Corban put together a five point run. The set was tied at 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 and 20 before Corban sored three in a row for a 23-20 lead that led to an eventual 25-22 win.  Dordt did not have a block in the set after recording four in the first set.

The Defenders regained their momentum in set three with a quick 8-2 lead that was never less than three. Leading 18-13 Dordt got a Timmermans kill to ignite a four point run that pushed the Defenders to a 25-15 win.

Dordt never relinquished the lead in set four after allowing Corban to tie the set at 13-13 but back to back points with Karsyn Winterfeld serving, including an ace serve, allowed Dordt to pull away to a 25-19 win.


Dordt had a 58-42 kills advantage and had a .320 kill efficiency.

The Defenders had a 15-3 points off of blocks advantage and a slight 4-3 ace edge.

Dordt overcame 16 service errors to secure the win.

Corrina Timmermans had 16 kills and Jessi De Jager had 11 with four block assists.

Jori Bronner put down nine kills and had six block assists.  Karsyn Winterfeld had eight kills and five digs.

Ava Van Soelen and Ally Krommendyk each had seven kills in the balanced Dordt attack and Krommendyk had seven block assists and one solo block.

Emily Feilmeier had 19 assists and nine digs and Megan Raszler put up 25 assists and had eight digs.

Corban’s Cassie Cunningham led all players with 15 kills.


Dordt and Corban meet again in the Red Raider Classic in Orange City on Friday, August 23.  Dordt plays two more matches on Saturday.


Dordt is 1-0 while Corban is 1-1 after beating Hastings 3-2 on Wednesday night.
