Dordt defeats Jamestown 3-2
HOW IT HAPPENED
A solo homerun by Rachel Evavold in the bottom of the eighth inning gave the Dordt Defenders their third extra inning win of the week in a 3-2 win over the Jamestown Jimmies on Friday night in Sioux Center.
Dordt broke through with a run in the fourth inning with a Marissa Vanden Berg homerun to left field. Dordt added another run in the fifth inning when Brooklyn Van Oort scored on a Jessica Oules single.
The hosts couldn’t hold on to the 2-0 lead while surrendering a run in the sixth and another in the seventh. The Defenders put together a threat in the bottom of the seventh but Hope Veldkamp was stranded at third base when the inning ended.
Jamestown got a runner on in the eighth but Dordt wiggled out of trouble and then ended with Evavold clubbing her third homerun of the season to center field on a 1-2 count.
Evavold was the winning pitcher with six hits allowed, one walk and two strikeouts.
Evavold also went 3-4 at the plate and was a triple shy of the cycle.
Vanden Berg hit a homerun and Oules and Bredeums had a single and double respectively.
Dordt is 10-10 in the league and 18-19 overall. Jamestown is 27-15 overall and 11-9 in league play.
Dordt will travel to face Concordia on Saturday in league play to conclude the regular season.
