Midland defeats Dordt 3-2 (9 innings)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt battled Midland for nine innings but lost a 3-2 decision in extra frames in the second game of the doubleheader.
Dordt got on the board with a run in the third inning with Marissa Vanden Berg doubling to start the inning and Jessica Oules knocked her in with a single. Dordt missed on a bigger inning with a double play that ended the inning.
Neither team threatened until the top of the sixth when Midland scored one run on two hits but Dordt got out of the inning with a strikeout that left two on base and the score tied at 1-1.
After a scoreless eighth the Warriors started the game with a double and a strikeout later the Warriors took a 3-1 lead with a homerun.
Dordt answered in the ninth with Brooklyn Van Oort singling and a ground out later Dordt was down to its final out. Kenzie Cundard singled to centerfield to score Van Oort and the Defenders got back to back walks to load the bases before the game ended on a strikeout.
Dordt was outhit 11-8.
Hailey Heeringa and Kenzie Cunard each had two hits with Cunard getting a double and a run batted in.
Tianna Soodsma went the distance and was charged with three runs, no walks and 10 strikeouts.
Dordt is scheduled to host Morningside on Friday and the College of Saint Mary on Saturday.
Dordt is 12-15 overall and 6-6 in the GPAC.
Midland is 18-4 overall and 8-0 in the league.
