Dordt defeats Ozark Christian 94-72
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt Defender men’s basketball team earned a 22 point win on day two of a classic hosted by Northwestern in Orange City, Iowa.
The first half was played at a double digit difference for much of the 20 minutes but Ozark Christian. With 4:17 left in the half the Defenders were up 37-26 but Ozark Christian charged back to within 38-34 with 1:34 left before intermission.
A basket by Chad Barkema stopped the momentum and Garrett Franken got a late hoop to put Dordt up 43-36 at the break.
After withstanding the comeback attempt Dordt pushed the lead to double digits again in the second half and was up 59-49 after a Josh Van Lingen basket. The Defenders controlled the rest of the game and led by as many as 93-66 before settling for the 94-72 win.
Dordt was 35-78 from the field and 10-32 from the three-point line and also converted 14-20 free throws.
Ozark Christian was 26-71 from the field and 2-12 from the three-point line.
Dordt had a 53-42 rebounding advantage and forced 17 turnovers.
Dordt was led by Marcus Winterfeld with 19 points and Garrett Franken added 17 points and seven rebounds.
Cade Bleeker converted 13 points and had three three-point baskets as did Winterfeld.
Jesse Jansma concluded the double digit scoring with 10 points and Chad Barkema had nine points and eight rebounds.

“We played well as a team especially in the second half. Our defense improved this week.”
Dordt will host Dakota Wesleyan on Wednesday night in the GPAC opener for both teams.
