Dordt def. Doane 80-47
HOW IT HAPPENED
A 14 point run in the first quarter put the Dordt Defender women’s basketball team up for good and the Defenders had little trouble in winning their 14th game of the season in an 80-47 victory over Doane in GPAC play Thursday night in Sioux Center.
The Defenders were down 5-4 with 4:49 left in the first quarter when a Gabby Kreykes basket after a Bailey Beckman steal ignited a 14-0 run. Dordt was up 18-8 at the end of the first quarter and closed the half with a 21-4 run for a 47-21 halftime lead.
Dordt’s first 30 point lead came at the end of the third quarter when Mya Chmielewski had a steal and lay up and the hosts outscored Doane 18-15 in the fourth quarter for the 33 point win.
Dordt converted 30-73 field goals and 7-23 three-point shots.
Doane was 20-66 from the field and 5-29 from the arc.
Dordt had a 52-40 rebounding advantage and forced a total of 27 turnovers and had 17 steals.
Gabby Kreykes had 14 points and Erika Feenstra scored 13 with six rebounds. Kreykes had four rebounds and four steals.
Rachel Evavold scored nine on a night when Dordt had 14 players score. Evavold also had six rebounds.
Dordt is 6-2 in the league and 14-2 overall while Doane is 0-8 in the GPAC and 1-12 overall.
Dordt will face Concordia on Saturday, January 4 in Seward, Nebraska.
