Dordt def. Midland 98-62
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt Defenders used a strong third quarter to pull away and win its 12th game of the season in a 98-62 decision over the Midland Warriors.
Dordt scored the first nine points of the game and forced a Midland timeout after an Erika Feenstra basket with 7:47 left in the quarter.
Midland cut the lead to three but Dordt built the lead to 19-12 at the end of the quarter with Feenstra getting a point in the paint off an assist by Ebby Prewitt.
Dordt managed to add two points to the lead by the end of the half when Payton Harmsen converted a putback of an offensive rebound at the buzzer for a 40-31 lead.
The Defenders asserted themselves immediately in the third quarter by outscoring the visitors 33-11 in the first seven minutes of the period, effectively putting the game out of reach at 79-47. A 21-15 advantage in the fourth quarter led to the 98-62 final.
Erika Feenstra had 24 points to lead Dordt and she had four rebounds.
Rachel Evavold added 12 points and six rebounds with Jordyn Van Maanen adding 10.
Mya Chmielewski came off the bench to score nine and Gabby Kreykes added nine as well.
Midland was paced by Katy Gathje with 15 points and Jada Simpson added 11—all of them in the fourth quarter.
Dordt converted 38-67 field goals and 8-18 three-point shots.
Midland made 23-73 field goals and 8-35 three-point shots.
Dordt’s field goal percentage was 57 while Midland’s was 32.
Dordt had a 51-31 rebounding advantage and both teams had 17 turnovers.
Dordt is 12-1 to start the year and has a 5-1 conference record. Midland is 4-8 overall and 1-5 in the league.
Dordt will face Bellevue on Tuesday night, December 10 at 6:00 in Sioux Center.
