Dordt defeats Buena Vista 91-63
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt Defender women’s basketball team beat Buena Vista on the road on Tuesday night in Storm Lake, Iowa. The Defenders trailed 2-0 and 5-4 before taking the lead for good on an Erika Feenstra layup off an assist by Baylee Tetzlaff.
Dordt was unable to shake the Beavers in the first quarter and led 26-21 after Feenstra converted an offensive rebound putback right before the horn. A Rachel Evavold basket started a run for the Defenders in the second quarter with Jordyn Van Mannen getting a layup to cap the 16 point run with 4:50 left in the half. The lead was still 49-31 at the halftime break.
The Defenders substituted freely through out the third quarter and held a 73-51 lead at the end of the third quarter. A Faith Anderson three-point basket gave Dordt its largest lead of the second half at 91-61 before the Defenders settled for the 91-63 win.
Dordt was 35-73 from the field for 47.9 percent and 7-21 from the three-point line.
Buena Vista converted 19-55 field goals and 3-15 three-point shots.
Dordt had a 41-38 rebounding advantage and forced 28 turnovers. Buena Vista made 22-31 free throws while Dordt converted 14-20.
Feenstra led Dordt with 31 points, six rebounds and two assists and three steals in 24 minutes of action.
Rachel Evavold added 13 points and Karly Gustafson had ten points with seen rebounds and four steals.
Seven different Defenders had one made three-point basket each.
12 Defenders scored at least two points.
Dordt will face Trinity Christian on Friday night in a classic hosted by the Trolls in Palos Heights, Illinois and will play Rochester on November 2. Dordt returns to local action on November 8 when it plays in a classic hosted by Northwestern.
Dordt is 2-0 to start the season.
