Dordt def. Benedictine (Kansas) 3-0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-23_


The Dordt Defender volleyball team swept the Ravens from Benedictine on Friday afternoon at the Park University Classic in Parkville, Missouri.

Dordt’s first set win was decided near the midpoint of the contest when Dordt turned an 11-8 advantage into a 16-10 edge with kills by four different players accounting for four of the five points in the surge. The Ravens got back to within 20-18 before Dordt scored three in a row on a Karsyn Winterfeld kill and two Benedictine attack errors. Dordt eventually won it on a block by Ava Van Soelen and Jessi De Jager.

Set two had Dordt build a 9-3 advantage right away and then a six point run pushed the Defenders from up 10-6 to up 16-6 as Winterfeld recorded a couple ace serves in the run.  Dordt was able to hold a 23-15 lead and went on to win 25-18.

Set three resulted in a fast start for Dordt again, this time getting up 14-5. This time Benedictine crawled all the way back to tie the set at 23-23 but Dordt stopped the five point run with a Jori Bronner kill followed by a Bronner and Ally Krommendyk block to win 25-23.


Dordt had a 41-27 kills edge and recorded eight aces while surrendering four.

Dordt scored five points on blocks.

Corrina Timmermans and Karsyn Winterfeld each had nine kills and Winterfeld was the team leader in digs with ten.

Ally Krommendyk put down six kills while Ava Van Soelen and Jessi DeJager each had five.

Megan Raszler put up 16 assists and Emily Feilmeier had 14.

Winterfele had four aces and Raszler two.

Erica Bousema had nine digs and Megan Raszler seven.


“What a fun match that we were able to play today. We enjoyed be able to come out strong in each set and get solid contributions from everyone.”


Dordt faces Huston-Tillotson (Texas) at 10:00 Saturday morning and Park at 4:00 in the afternoon.
