Corban defeats Dordt 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 25-18)
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt Defender volleyball team lost a 3-0 decision to Corban on Friday afternoon at the Northwestern Red Raider Classic in Orange City. The loss came one day after Dordt had beaten the Warriors 3-1 in Sioux Center.
The Defenders got down early in set one and trailed 9-6 after an Ava Van Soelen kill. The three point deficit grew to 12-6 before a Corinna Timmermans kill stopped the three-point run. Corban than went on a 4-0 tear to go up 16-7 and rode that difference to a 25-16 win.
A 10-5 start by Corban in set two put the Defenders on their heels and they would only get as close as 22-21 on a Jori Bronner kill but back to back Corban points put the Warriors back in the driver’s seat for an eventual 25-22 win.
Dordt held an early 6-4 lead in set two after Jessi De Jager put a kill away. A 5-0 run by the Warriors pu them up for good and Corban earned the sweep with a 25-18 victory.
Corban had a 41-37 kills advantage and Dordt hit .178 with 21 errors in the loss.
Corban had a 5-2 service ace edge.
Dordt recorded 36 digs and Corban had 25.
Corban had a slight 3-2 points off block edge.
Jessi De Jager had eight kills and Jori Bronner had seven.
Corrina Timmermans added six kills.
Megan Raszler and Emily Feilmeier had 20 and 13 assists each. Hannah Connelly had ten digs.
Dordt is now 1-1 and Corban is 2-1.
Dordt will face Baker (Kansas) at 9:00 Saturday morning.
