HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt College women's soccer team suffered a 3-0 loss to Viterbo in their season opener on Saturday.
Kate Cronin found the back of the net for the V-Hawks on a breakaway just three minutes into the game. Dordt's Maddie Regnerus had a chance a few minutes later, but couldn't get enough room to put a shot on frame.
Megan Goodman scored the first of her two goals in the 40th minute to stretch the V-Hawks lead to two. Karlee Kuyvenhoven had two other saves in the first half.
Goodman scored her second of the evening four minutes into the second half and ended the scoring for the game. The Defenders couldn't muster much offense over the next forty minutes. Any chance they had was thwarted by the V-Hawks back line. They only tested V-Hawks keeper Abby Breitbach one time throughout the entire contest.
Karlee Kuyvenhoven had six saves in the loss.
Dordt managed three shots and only one on net.
The V-Hawks had 11 shots and nine were on goal.
Dordt will face-off against Olivet Nazarene in Sioux Center next Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
