Viterbo def. Dordt 5-4
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt Defender softball team lost a 5-4 decision to Viterbo (Wisconsin) on Monday, March 11 in Tucson, Arizona. The Defenders scored a run in the second and another in the top of the third to lead 2-1. The run in the third inning came on a Marissa VandenBerg homerun.
Viterbo came back with four runs in the third inning and led 5-2 as neither team mounted more of a threat until the top of the seventh when Brooklyn Van Noort doubled to put her and Hailey Heeringa in scoring position.
Natalie Vos followed with a single that scored both runners but Vos was stranded at first as the game ended on a strikeout.
Rachel Evavold pitched three innings and allowed five runs on eight hits and had three strikeouts.
Tianna Soodsma went two innings and struck out one and Natalie Vos pitched one innings and struck out two.
Dordt was outhit 8-6 and had six different players with one hit each.
Vanden Berg and Van Noort had Dordt’s extra base hits with a homerun and a double.
Jessica Oules, Hailey Heeringa, Abby Smith and Vos all had singles.
