Mount Marty defeats Dordt 8-2
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Mount Marty Lancers scored in their last three at-bats to pull away from a 1-1 tie in GPAC softball at Yankton, South Dakota on Tuesday evening.
Mount Marty scored one in the first on three hits and an error and stranded two base runners.
Dordt got the equalizer with a run in the second when Brooklyn Van Oort scored on a Janae Wynja single with two outs. Dordt scored the run after stranding two runners in the first inning.
The Lancers scored a run in the fourth inning on three hits and Dordt tied it again with a Rachel Evavold solo homerun in the top of the fifth inning.
Mount Marty took the lead for good with three runs in the fifth inning on four hits and added three more in the sixth to secure the 8-2 win
Jessica Oules, Abby Smith and Janae Wynja all had singles.
Evavold’s homerun was the only extra base hit of the night for Dordt and she also took Dordt’s only walk.
Tianna Soodsma took the loss and gave up eight runs on 13 hits and struck out two with no walks.
Mount Marty had a 13-4 hits advantage.
The two teams committed five errors with Dordt getting charged with two.
