Morningside def. Dordt 4-2
HOW IT HAPPENED
Morningside held on for a 4-2 win in Sioux Center in game two of their GPAC doubleheader on Monday night, April 15.
Both teams scored a run in the fourth with Dordt getting its run after Brooklyn Van Oort singled in Rachel Evavold.
Morningside broke the deadlock with three in the fifth inning and capitalized on an error to score the three runs on four hits. Dordt managed to get a run back when Marissa Vanden Berg singled in Hope Veldkamp to cut the difference to 4-2.
The score remained 4-2 into the bottom of the seventh inning when Jessica Oules reached on an error with one out. Marissa Vanden Berg followed with a single and Kenzie Cunard loaded the bases on an error. After a strikeout Hailey Heeringa hit a sharp line drive to right field but was ruled out on the force play at first to end the game.
Both teams had seven hits.
Rachel Evavold took the loss with four runs allowed—two of them earned and walked four with five strikeouts.
Marissa Vanden Berg was 3-4 at the plate and Brooklyn Van Oort was 2-3.
Morningside’s Hallie Misiaszek worked both ends of the doubleheader and took the win.
Dordt is off until Tuesday, April 23 when the Defenders travel to Waldorf.
Dordt is 13-18 overall and 7-9 in the GPAC.
Morningside is 21-6 overall and 14-2 in the GPAC.
