Doane defeats Dordt 3-1
HOW IT HAPPENED
In a game where the two teams combined for ten hits the Dordt Defenders lost a quickly played 3-1 decision to Doane on Saturday morning in Crete, Nebraska.
Doane got three in the fourth inning as the pitcher dominated the first three innings. The Tigers got three runs on five hits and left two base runners on base as the inning closed.
Dordt threatened in the sixth inning when two runners reached on errors but the visitors couldn’t cash in and trailed 3-0 going into the seventh.
The Defenders managed a run in the seventh when Hope Veldkamp reached with a two-out single and an error allowed Veldkamp to score when Jessica Oules put the ball in play. With the tying run at the plate Dordt was retired on a pop out in foul territory to end the game.
THE DORDT NUMBERS
Rachel Evavold and Hope Veldkamp were both 2-3 at the plate to account for Dordt’s four hits.
Tianna Soodsma went the first five innings and was charged with the loss and allowed three earned runs on five hits with one strikeout and one walk.
