Dordt defeats Doane 7-3
HOW IT HAPPENED
For the second day in a row the Dordt Defenders softball team earned a split of their doubleheader in GPAC play after dropping game one.
This time the Defenders never trailed in winning a 7-3 decision from Doane in Crete, Nebraska.
Marissa Vanden Berg led off the game with a homerun to put Dordt up and the Defenders added another three in the third with Rachel Evavold knocking in two with a homerun and Kenzi Cunard doubled to score Hailey Heeringa.
Doane got one back in the third inning to trail 3-1 but Dordt got the run back with a Heeringa double plating Vanden Berg in the fourth. Dordt missed out on a more damaging inning as they left the bases loaded and the game was 5-1.
Doane closed to within two in the home half of the fifth but Dordt got two more in the top of the sixth to make the final 7-3. Evavold had a run batted in and Heeringa had another with a double and the rest of the game went without a threat by either team.
THE DORDT NUMBERS
Dordt had a 10-7 hits advantage.
Marissa Vanden Berg was 4-5 at the plate with a run batted in and four runs scored.
Hailey Heeringa was 2-3 with a pair of doubles.
Rachel Evavold was credited with the win and allowed three runs on two walks and had four strikeouts.
Dordt will host Midland on Monday, April 8 at 4:00.
Dordt is 12-13 overall and 6-4 in the GPAC.
Doane is 13-17 overall and 5-5 in the league.
