Dordt defeats Hastings 5-0
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt salvaged a split of its doubleheader with Hastings on April 5 with a 5-0 win over the Broncos in Hastings, Nebraska.
Dordt got things going with two runs in the top of the third. Erin Bredemus walked but was taken off the bases with a fielder’s choice. With two outs Jessica Oules singled and Rachel Evavold followed with a single that scored Marissa Vanden Berg. Jessica Oules proceeded to score on the play with an error charged to the centerfielder.
Hastings got two on in the bottom of the fourth but a strikeout ended the threat. The following half inning Dordt got two more with Cunard singling but she was wiped off the bases with a fielder’s choice. Vanden Berg singled and Oules walked. Rachel Evavold had a single to plate one run and Hailey Heeringa had a sacrifice fly that plated Vanden Berg.
Leading 4-0 Cunard homered in the top of the sixth and the rest of the game was played without incident with Dordt prevailing 5-0.
Evavold was 4-4 with two runs batted in and Cunard had a single and homerun.
Vanden Berg and Oules each had singles.
Evavold was the winning pitcher with a shutout and four hits allowed. She struck out four with one walk.
Dordt had an 8-4 hits advantage.
The two teams had a combined three bases on balls.
Dordt is now 11-12 overall and 5-3 in the GPAC. Hastings is 10-12 and 2-4.
Dordt will face Doane on Saturday morning beginning at 11:00.
