HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt College men's hockey team struggled to muster any sort of offense in the 9-0 loss to Creighton on Friday. It was the final regular season home game of the year for the Blades.
Two first period goals for the Jays were all they needed to put the game out of reach. Isaac Lamppa struck first. He also added three assists on the night. Mason Carstens was next with his first goal of the night coming with two minutes remaining in the opening period.
Matt Koucerek scored his first goal four minutes into the second and Brendan Chamberlin found the back of the net a few minutes later to make it 4-0 heading into the third.
Koucerek scored his second seven minutes into the third. Vann Hartigan scored one minute later to make it 6-0. Chamberlin's second came with just under 10 minutes to play in the game. Koucerek completed his hat trick two minutes later and Carstens scored his second with a minute remaining to cap off the Jays' scoring.
David Burns played the first 51 minutes in net, had 29 saves and surrendered seven goals. Bryce Andry replaced Burns with nine minutes to play and gave up two goals.
It was Caleb Groot and Keaton De Jong's final home game for the Defenders. Groot finished his career with 77 total points in 95 games. De Jong finished with 32 points in his 95 game career.
Ben Roberts earned the shut out with 31 saves.
Five different players scored for the Jays.
