HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt Blades struggled to get anything going in their 14-0 loss to Hope College on Friday night.
The Blades made the five hour drive from Illinois to Holland, MI Friday to play the second game of their back-to back-to back.
A seven goal first period by Hope blew things open. Maxwell Mones broke the deadlock a minute into the game. The Blades had opportunities over the following eight minutes, but couldn’t find the back of the net.
Cole Stenstrom stretched the Hope lead to two off assists from Noah Arents and Allan Hirsch nine minutes into the first. The final 11 minutes of the first were all Hope College. Mones scored three more goals, Stenstrom added one and Bradley Baysore got on the score sheet as well.
The Blades only surrendered two goals in the second period. The first came a minute in for Hirsch and the second was courtesy of Ethan Pinto.
A five goal third period gave Hope the 14 goal win. Jake Faustyn struck first, Stenstrom completed his hat trick, Mones scored his fifth, and Peter Stewart and Brendan Sanders scored their firsts.
Dordt was outshot 64 to 21.
David Burns and Samual Kingma each spent time in net. Burns played 40 minutes and Kingma played twenty. Each gave up seven goals.
Dordt will face off against Notre Dame in South Bend, IN tonight at 10:00 p.m. to wrap up their road trip.
