HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt Blades first game back following Christmas break failed to go their way. The Blades fell 6-3 to Augustana (IL).
Augustana struck early and scored two goals in the first three minutes. Sam Spector scored the first of his four goals one minute in and Blake Erquiaga found the back of the net a minute later.
Dordt's Sam De Jong responded five minutes later to pull Dordt within one. Kyle Parker answered with eight minutes left in the period to stretch the Augustana lead back to two.
Neither team capitalized on the rest of their chances in the first. Spector scored his second of the game two minutes into the second and finished off the hat trick nine minutes later to give Augustana a four-goal lead.
Dordt newcomer James Page scored the first of his two goals with eight minutes left in the second to get Dordt back within three.
The first few minutes of the third period were back and forth with neither team able to make the most of their opportunities. Spector struck a fourth time for Augustana with 14 minutes left in the third.
Page capped off the scoring two minutes later, but it wasn't enough to close the four goal deficit.
Dordt outshot Augustana 35-32.
Bryce Andry was in net the entire game.
Dordt will face off against Hope College in Michigan tonight at 7:30 p.m.
