HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt Blades struck early, but couldn’t stop the Nebraska Cornhusker power play in their 6-3 home loss on Friday.
Eli Visscher scored Dordt’s lone first period goal with 16:43 left to play. Jordan Hank tied things up for the Cornhuskers fourteen minutes later.
Dordt’s Keaton De Jong broke the deadlock early in the second period. The Cornhuskers went on to score three unanswered goals to take a 4-2 lead. Chris Mysack scored the first on a shorthanded goal seven minutes into play. Jordan Hank scored his second of the night six minutes later on a power play and Alex Robb found the back of the net one minute later on another power play.
Ryan Brue scored Dordt’s final goal of the game with 4:50 left to play in the second to cut the Blades deficit to 4-3.
It took only two minutes for the Cornhuskers to stretch the lead back to two. Jon Cowley scored the goal thanks to an Alex Robb assist.
Nebraska’s Evan Jonson finished off the scoring on a power play goal with three minutes left in the third period.
Dordt was outshot 51-25 overall. There were 11 penalties in the game.
Dordt will play at Nebraska-Lincoln on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
