Mount Marty defeats Dordt 3-1
HOW IT HAPPENED
One run in three different innings proved to be enough as the Mount Marty Lancers defeated Dordt 3-1 on Wednesday afternoon in Yankton, South Dakota.
The Lancers broke through in the top of the third inning when a two-out walk led to a stolen base and a free base on a passed ball setting up a run scoring single. Dordt had threatened in the home half of the second inning with runners on second and third with two outs but the Defenders couldn’t break through.
Dordt got a run in the sixth with Jessica Oules scoring an unearned run to trim the difference to 2-1 but Mount Marty got a run for insurance in the top of the seventh inning and Dordt got the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the seventh but couldn’t get the timely hit.
Dordt played as the home team because the game was scheduled to be played in Sioux Center.
Dordt was outhit 6-3 but were unable to fully take advantage of four Mount Marty errors.
Corinne May, Jessica Oules and Carley DeRoin all had singles for the Defenders.
Rachel Evavold pitched seven innings and was charged with two earned runs. She struck out five and walked five in the loss.
