Dordt defeats Briar Cliff 3-0 (25-12, 25-15, 25-22)
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt Defender volleyball team remained unbeaten GPAC play with a 3-0 win over the Briar Cliff Chargers in Sioux Center on Tuesday night, September 18.
The Defenders started fast with a 7-0 run with Aubrey Drake serving the final six points of the run. Ema Altena had two kills in the run to help ignite the Defenders and Dordt was up 12-2 after a service ace by Jamie De Jager.
The Chargers closed to within 16-10 and 17-11 but an Altena kill started a six point run and an attack error finished the set for a 25-12 Defender win.
Briar Cliff seemed to bounce back and was up 9-6 but a service error by the Chargers started a four point run for the Defenders and Dordt never trailed again, using a 6-0 run to go from tied 12-12 to an 18-12 advantage. Leah Kamp started another five point run to go up 23-13 and the Defenders were 25-15 winners.
Set three was the most competitive of the three sets with 12 ties through 17-17. An attack error put Dordt up 18-17 and a ball handling error by the Chargers put the hosts up 19-17. Briar Cliff got as close as one on three different occasions but a Julia Lindbergh kill and an attack error by the visitors ended it 25-22.
Ema Altena had 11 kills and four digs and handled 16 service receptions cleanly.
Ally Krommendyk had nine kills and Jessi De Jager put down seven.
Leah Kamp added six kills and was in on three blocks.
Jamie De Jager put up 32 assists and had two service aces with six digs and a block assist.
Dordt had a 40-21 kill advantage.
The Defenders had five points on blocks and two on service aces but were hampered by 10 service errors.
Dordt is 10-2 overall and 4-0 in GPAC play.
Briar Cliff is 7-6 overall and 1-3 in the GPAC.
Dordt will host Jamestown on Friday night before traveling to Midland on Saturday.
