The Dordt College Defender volleyball team improved to 1-0 in GPAC play and 6-1 overall with a 3-0 win over the Mount Marty Lancers in Yankton, South Dakota on Tuesday night.

The Defenders controlled set one from start to finish, using a 5-1 run to start the set and a 7-0 run late to secure a 25-12 win.

Set two saws the teams fight to an 8-8 tie before an Ema Altena kill spurred Dordt to a 3-0 run and the Lancers were never closer than two the rest of the set. Dordt won it 25-14 on a service error.

A 14-2 run to start set three took the suspense out of the contest and Dordt was a 25-11 winner.

Dordt piled up 11 points on blocks and six with ace serves.

Dordt had a .292 kill efficiency and recorded 39 kills.

“I think this is one of the strongest starts for us in conference in terms of playing good, energized and fluid volleyball. I really liked how gritty we were.”
