Dordt defeats Baker 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-20)
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt Defender volleyball team continued its strong play to open the season with a Saturday morning sweep of the Baker Wildcats in Orange City.
Dordt started set one with a 10-3 run and led by as man as seven the rest of the set in winning 25-16.
Set two was tied 3-3 before Ema Altena served eight straight points for an 11-3 lead. Robyn Underwood subbed in and continued the service string with five more points before Baker was able to end the run at 17-3. The Defenders went on to win 25-14 with a service error and an attack error ending the set.
Set three saw the Defenders get up 17-11 before Baker threatened and got as close as 19-17 and 20-18. Baker never got closer than two and Dordt closed the set and match with a kill by Ema Altena, a block by Jamie De Jager and an ace by Aubrey Drake for a 25-20 sweep.
Ema Altena had 12 kills and six digs.
Ally Krommendyk had 11 kills and three solo blocks.
Leah Kamp put down 10 kills.
Jamie De Jager accounted for 31 assists and two service aces.
Hannah Connelly and Altena each had three service aces and Aubrey Drake had a team high 16 digs.
Dordt hit .326 for the match and had a 44-26 kills advantage.
Dordt scored six points on blocks and 10 service aces.
COACH HANSON SAID
“We experienced some great learning points in this match with playing high level volleyball that was fast and reactive. We also learned the importance of playing each point with full focus. Our servers kept a strong attack from the service line. At this early stage of our season we are enjoying these competitive moments and seeing everyone contribute.”
