Dordt defeats Waldorf (Iowa) 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-16)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt College finished its first week of competition with its fourth sweep in as many matches with a 3-0 win over the Waldorf Warriors at the Northwestern Red Raider Classic in Orange City.
Dordt’s win came with little suspense as the Defenders never led by less than three in set one after getting up 14-11 and went on to win it 25-15, closing the set with a 6-1 run.
The Defenders raced out to a 13-4 lead in set two but gave up a run of seven points in a row to lead 13-11. A kill by Ava Van Soelen ended the threat and Dordt had a 12-5 finish to win 25-16 with Ally Krommendyk and Jessi De Jager combining for a block to finish the set.
An 8-4 start by the Defenders in set three set the tone and Dordt won by a 25-16 margin after leading by as many as 11.
Dordt had a 41-21 kills advantage and recorded six service aces with seven points off of blocks.
Ally Krommendyk had nine kills and Julia Lindbergh and Ema Altena each had seven kills.
Jamie De Jager lofted 31 assists.
Erica Bousema and Aubrey Drake each had two service aces.
COACH HANSON SAID
“Another great match for us this season where we showed composure from the serve line and serve receive passing. Our attacking routes and options continue to develop. We have also shown some gritty play and hustle which makes the rally last longer and really exciting to watch.”
Dordt will face Rocky Mountain, William Woods, Lawrence Tech and Carroll next week at a classic hosted by Bellevue University on August 31 and September 1.
