Dordt defeats MidAmerica Nazarene 3-0 (25-18, 25-10, 25-15)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt College had little trouble in its season opening match against MidAmerica Nazarene at the Northwestern Red Raider Classic in Orange City.
Dordt downed the Pioneers 25-18, 25-10, 25-15 to hand MidAmerica Nazarene its first loss of the weekend.
The Defenders fell behind by three points at 12-9 but managed to tie the score on an attack error, a Julia Lindbergh kill and a service error. Ties ensued at 14, 15 and 16 before Jamie DeJager gave Dordt the lead for good on a kill at 17-16. The kill sparked a 6-0 run and Dordt won the set 25-18.
The Defenders never trailed in set two with a 6-0 run pushing them in front 8-2 and the Pioneers were never close in falling 25-10 as Dordt scored the final seven points of the set in a row.
Dordt got out to a 9-3 lead in set three and the lead grew to 21-8 before MidAmerica Nazarene scored five points in a row before succumbing 25-15.
Dordt had a 41-21 kills advantage and hit for a .306 kill efficiency.
Dordt did not allow a serve receive error.
The Defenders scored five points on blocks to seven for MidAmerica Nazarene.
Ema Altena had 14 kills and Leah Kamp 10.
Jamie De Jager put up 30 assists.
Erica Bousema and Aubrey Drake each had ten digs and Hannah Connelly handled 11 serve receptions without an error.

“We came out strong and enjoyed getting many attackers involved. Each area of offense and defense became more comfortable in this first match of the 2018 season. This is an exciting team and they are loving playing together.”
