HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt Defenders improved to 2-0 this volleyball season with a convincing 25-21, 25-19, 25-15 win over no. 19 Corban at the Red Raider Classic in Orange City.
Dordt took an eight point lead at 17-9 in set one after a kill by Jamie De Jager. Corban rallied to within 18-14 and 22-16 before scoring four points in a row to get within 22-20. Leah Kamp ended the run and a block by Ally Krommendyk and Jessi De Jager and Julia Lindbergh eventually scored the game winner 25-21.
Corban had an early lead and built up a four point advantage at 14-10 in set two. A 13 point run gave the Defenders momentum and Jessi De Jager finished the set with a kill.
Set three was never close as Dordt got ahead 18-9 and rolled to the 25-15 win.
Dordt had a .306 kill efficiency and had 47 kills to Corban’s 35.
The Defenders were led by Ema Altena and Leah Kamp with 10 kills each and Jessi De Jager put down nine kills.
Ally Krommendyk was in on six block assists and seven kills and Julia Lindbergh also had seven kills.
Jamie De Jager accounted for 43 service aces with five digs and four kills.
Aubrey Drake got to 13 digs and handled 11 serve receptions with no errors. Erica Bousema had 18 service receptions.
Dordt scored 13 points on blocks and each team had one ace serve.
COACH HANSON SAID
“We grew in our defensive execution through this match and had blocking numbers that reflected that growth. Our ball control kept us in strong offensive position and allowed Jamie to distribute the ball really well. This was a fun match to play and a great opponent to compete against.”
