Dordt defeats Briar Cliff 83-35
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt Defender women’s basketball team secured its first ever 20-win season with an 83-35 home victory over the Briar Cliff Chargers in GPAC play on Wednesday, February 13.
The Defenders were down 8-5 at the 5:29 mark of the first quarter when Siennah Stamness converted a three-point shot to tie the game and start a 12 point run to close the quarter.
Briar Cliff’s offensive woes continued into the second half as the Defenders scored the first 14 points of the quarter and led 31-8 with 2:16 left in the half. The Defenders ended up taking a 37-12 lead into halftime.
Dordt’s lead was never less than 24 in the third period as the Defenders went up 54-24 and outscored the visitors 29-11 in the fourth quarter for the final margin of victory.
Dordt was 29-63 from the field and 8-25 from the three-point line and converted 17-27 free throws.
The Chargers were 10-48 from the field and 4-14 from the arc while converting 11-18 free throws.
Dordt forced 32 turnovers and had 14 steals while committing 23 turnovers.
Dordt had a 52-25 rebounding advantage and had 23 offensive rebounds.
Erika Feenstra had 14 points and nine rebounds with three steals.
Siennah Stamness had 13 points.
Payton Harmsen scored nine points and converted three three-point baskets.
Annie Rhinesmith had nine points and seven assists.
Kenzie Bousema had nine points and seven rebounds before leaving with an injury.
Rachel Evavold had seven points and nine rebounds.
