Dordt defeats Mount Marty 95-64


Dordt never trailed and went above .500 in GPAC play with a 95-64 win over the Mount Marty Lancers on Wednesday night in Sioux Center.

Dordt scored the first six points of the game to lead 6-0 with 18:35 left in the half as Garrett Franken had back to back two-point field goals after a Ben Gesink lay up to start the game.  The lead quickly grew to double figures as Chandler Brunsting converted a three-point field goal with 16:51 left in the half for a 12-2 lead.  The Lancers never got the lead under 10 the rest of the half and Dordt was up 44-21 at halftime.

Mount Marty briefly got the lead down to 19 early in the second half but the Defenders quickly got the lead up to 69-36 on a Josh Van Lingen basket with 10:29 left and the rest of the game was played with the Defenders up by at least 26 points.


Dordt was 39-63 from the field for 62 percent success and 11-26 from the three-point arc.

Mount Marty made 21-63 shots and 8-28 three-point baskets.

The Defenders had a 42-29 rebounding advantage and had eight steals to seven for the Lancers.

Dordt had 28 assists.


Alec Henrickson scored 19 points with three assists and was 7-9 from the field including 3-5 from the three-point line.

Garrett Franken scored 14 with seven assists.

Zach Bussard scored 12 with seven rebounds and Chad Barkema added 11 points with six rebounds and three steals.

Jesse Jansma handed out five assists and had seven points.


The Lancers were led by Jalen Billings with 24 points and he was 6-10 from the three-point line.

Colby Johnson scored 21 and had five rebounds. 

Billings and Johnson scored the first 28 points of the second half for Mount Marty.


“We passed the ball really well tonight. It think if you are sitting in the stands tonight you see a team that really gets along well and is willing to pass it to whoever is open…the 28 assists tonight speaks volumes about our guys. We had very solid games from a lot of guys. Alec had a nice night.  Ben was good and I thought Chandler was really good tonight. Josh had 10 rebounds and Bussard scored 12.  Those two post players combine for 17 rebounds we’re having a good night.


Dordt is 14-8 overall and 7-6 in the league.

Mount Marty is 6-16 overall and 2-11 in the GPAC.


Dordt will host Nebraska Christian on Saturday at 4:00 before hosting Northwestern on Wednesday, January 23.
