The Dordt College men’s soccer team scored two late goals to force overtime against Briar Cliff on Wednesday, but gave up a goal four minutes in to lose 3-2.

A physical first half led to three yellow cards and an ejection, but no goals. Briar Cliff’s Sebastian Justiniano earned a straight red to drop the Chargers to 10 men for the rest of the match.

The teams went scoreless for the first 15 minutes of the second half. Luis Paulo Sartor broke the deadlock off an assist from Rodrigo Oliveira to give Briar Cliff a 1-0 lead. Lionel Von Zitzewitz finished a Jonas Reinke assist in the 84th minute to stretch the Chargers lead to two.

Patrick Munsey scored four seconds later to pull the Defenders within one. AJ Felich scored his first goal of the season two minutes later to tie the match.

Both teams held on over the last four minutes and went into overtime.

It took only four minutes of overtime for Vilmer Gimbringer to score and give the Chargers the victory.


Dordt was outshot 20-13 overall and 9-7 in shots on goal.

Dordt goalkeeper Seth Lewison had six saves in the loss.

Dordt earned five yellow cards in the game.


“We played a terrific game, it was one of our best. We did a great job executing the game plan and that kept the game 0-0 at halftime. A ton of our heart by our team led to two goals in the last five minutes to push the game into overtime. It was a battle in every way.”


The Dordt men will host Hastings on Saturday at 3:15 for Defender Days.
