Conference Match

The Dordt College men’s soccer team lost a 2-0 decision to Doane on Saturday in their second game of GPAC play.

Both teams have equal opportunities throughout the first half, but a curling shot from Markus Pieper from the right side of the 18-yard box gave Doane a 1-0 lead in the 34th minute. The Tigers held the lead heading into halftime.

Doane struck again in the 58th minute. Rhett Dawson split two of Dordt’s defenders to poke a shot past Dordt goalkeeper Seth Lewison.

Neither team was able to score for the rest of the game. Doane had a high quality chance after Garret Vander Zee took down Daniel Lopez on a breakaway. Vander Zee was given a red card and Doane earned a free kick from 25 yards. Doane was unable to connect on the free kick and held on to the 2-0 victory.

Dordt outshot Doane 10-7 overall, but both teams had three shots on goal.

Goalkeeper Seth Lewison had two saves in the match.

“We had several good chances early, but we could not take the lead. If we had gotten the lead, the whole complexion of the day probably changes. As it was, we could not take the lead and a lot of things did not go our way. It was a loss we can learn from.”

The Dordt men will play at Jamestown on Wednesday at 7:30 to continue GPAC conference play.
