HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt College men’s soccer team did just enough to pull out a 1-0 win over Buena Vista on Wednesday. The Defenders were able to escape a difficult first half and settle down to play a more complete second half.
Neither team was able to create any offense in the first half and went into halftime tied 0-0.
The Defender’s came out of halftime on the attack. Patrick Munsey had a shot on goal saved in less than a minute of play.
Mason Faucett scored one minute later to give Dordt the 1-0 lead. The goal came off an assist from Garrett Goodson.
Dordt held on over the next 43 minutes to earn the road victory.
Dordt outshot Buena Vista 14-12 overall, but only managed three shots on net.
Goalkeeper Seth Lewison had two saves in the shutout.
The win improved Dordt to 3-2 overall.
COACH ELGERSMA SAID
“We played well in the second half. We were a little tense in the first half, maybe a little rushed. Scoring helped us settle in and our back line played very solid.”
Dordt will face Waldorf in Forest City, Iowa on Saturday at 1 p.m. to complete their early year non-conference schedule.
