HOW IT HAPPENED

The Dordt College men’s soccer team defeated the Trinity Christian College Trolls 2-1 in their 2018 home opener. The win improved their overall record to 2-1. The strong winds and warm temperatures led to a scrappy game, but Dordt stayed composed enough to pull out the victory.

Garrett Goodson put Dordt on the board first in the 12th minute with a goal off of a lengthy free kick. Trinity goalkeeper Mathis Muller bobbled the ball into the back of the net and gave Dordt the lead. Neither team was able to produce much offense for the rest of the first half.

Gideon De Graaf drew a penalty kick in the 70th minute and Goodson converted it for his team-leading fourth goal of the year.

Trinity found the back of the net thirty seconds later to pull within one.

Neither team was able to score over the next 20 minutes and Dordt earned the victory.

NUMBERS

Dordt took seven shots and managed to put them all on frame. Trinity had four shots with three of them being on frame.

Seth Lewison had four saves in the game.

COACH ELGERSMA SAID

"We played well in spurts. The end of the first half was just gorgeous passing, great teamwork and fun to watch. Then we got tentative and bad things happened. We made enough key plays down the stretch to preserve the win."
