HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt College women’s soccer team bounced back after a conference loss to Concordia to defeat Mount Marty 5-0 at home on Tuesday. The Defenders dominated possession throughout the game and were able to capitalize on their numerous chances.
Alaina Van Zalen scored her first goal of the match in the 14th minute off of a cross from Cailey Terpstra. Terpstra was given credit for a Mount Marty own goal in the 26th minute. Her corner kick bounced off the head of one of the Lancer defenders and into the back of the net.
Amelia Rens scored Dordt’s third goal of the half in the 38th minute off of an Abby Wolterstorff cross.
Dordt came into the second half with a similar attacking scheme as the first and Van Zalen found the back of the net for her second goal of the game in the 47th minute. Rachel Zuidema added Dordt’s fifth and final goal in the 74th minute to earn the Defenders third conference win.
Dordt outshot Mount Marty 22-2 overall and 9-0 in shots on goal.
Dordt goalkeeper Karlee Kuyvenhoven did not have to make a single save throughout the match.
COACH ELGERSMA SAID
"The women really struggled to play at our pace after a couple early goals. We finally got a couple more to go and we relaxed and did some good things."
The Defender women will face the College of St. Mary’s at home on Saturday at 1 p.m.
