HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt College women’s soccer team bounced back from two losses this past weekend to defeat Buena Vista 5-0 on Wednesday. The win improved the Defender road record to 2-1.
Kenzie Bousema wasted little time and scored her first goal of the game 15 minutes into the match. The goal came off of a shot from 25 yards that deflected off of Buena Vista goalkeeper Katie Voortmann.
Rachel Zuidema scored her second goal in two games ten minutes later to give Dordt a 2-0 lead.
Both teams went scoreless the final twenty minutes of the first half.
Bousema struck again in the 58th minute off an assist from Hannah Glynn. It took only another two minutes for Bousema to complete her hat trick and give Dordt a 4-0 lead in the 60th minute.
Alaina Van Zalen capped off the scoring for the Defenders in the 63rd minute.
Dordt outshot Buena Vista 12-9 overall and 8-4 in shots on target.
Dordt goalkeeper DeLynne Zevenbergen had three saves and earned the shutout.
COACH ELGERSMA SAID
“The women created a lot of chances early and we kept the pressure on them most of the night. It was good to score a couple early second half goals and that allowed us to relax as a team.”
Dordt plays at Viterbo on Saturday at 1 p.m. in their final non-conference game before conference play begins.
