Dordt defeats Peru State 12-1
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt Defender softball team scored at least two runs in four innings and won a 12-1 decision from the host Peru State Bobcats on Friday in Peru, Nebraska.
Hannah Sikkema clubbed a two-run homerun to highlight a three-run second inning. Rachel Evavold doubled in a run in the third and added another run when Carley DeRoin singled with Evavold on third base.
Evavold later smacked a three-run homerun in the fifth inning and the Defenders scored four runs on four hits in the top of the seventh to finish the scoring.
Peru State’s only run came in the third inning as Tianna Top was in control in the circle for the Defenders.
Tianna Top went the distance and scattered seven hits with one run allowed, one walk and she struck out four.
Dordt had a 12-7 hits advantage.
Evavold had three hits with five runs batted in on two doubles and a homerun.
Carley De Roin, Ashley Williams and Hannah Sikkema all had two hits with Sikkeme knocking in three runs while De Roin and Williams each had two.
Hailey Heeringa and Evavold each had three runs scored.
