Dordt defeats Valley City State 6-5
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt scored a come from behind win to get a split with the Valley City State Vikings on Tuesday night in Arizona.
The Vikings scored one in the first and two in the second inning. The Vikings added a run in the fourth inning for a 4-0 lead before Dordt began to rally.
Dordt scored three runs on five walks, a bunt and a sacrifice fly to get within 4-3.
Valley City State scored one more in the fifth inning but Dordt got that run back with a Zach Fowler triple getting Josh Van Eps across.
Still trailing 5-4 in the seventh Dordt was able to load the bases after Taylor Neuroth singled to start the inning and Colton Van Otterloo had a double to tie the game. An intentional walk and another walk loaded the bases. Trent Roose then was hit by a pitch to give Dordt the 6-5 win.
Dordt had a 5-4 hits advantage.
Five different Defenders had hits and Dordt worked for 10 walks.
Zach Fowler scored two runs.
Cole Vande Vegte pitched four innings in the start and allowed three earned runs with five strikeouts and two hits surrendered.
Karsten Marker, Andrew Randall and Trent Roose all worked one inning each. Marker allowed two hits with two strikeouts.
Randall and Roose didn’t allow and hit over the final two innings and faced the minimum number of batters.
