Dordt defeats Robert Morris (Illinois) 8-5
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt College overcame a 5-1 third inning deficit and scored seven unanswered runs on the way to an 8-5 win over Robert Morris on Wednesday in Arizona.
The Defenders got one run in the first on an unearned run with Marissa VandenBerg scoring on a Rachel Evavold single. Robert Morris followed with three in the first and two in the third.
Dordt started its rally with a run in the fifth on three hits with Summer Jansen providing a run scoring single. After a scoreless fifth the Defenders scored five in the sixth on three hits and four errors and then added another in the top fo the seventh as Jessica Oules singled in Ashley Williams.
Robert Morris threatened with two hits in the seventh but a game ending double play ended the uprising.
Dordt had a 13-11 hits advantage and Robert Morris had five errors while Dordt had none.
Oules had four singles and two runs batted in for Dordt.
Summer Janse had two singles as did Williams. Williams also had two runs scored.
Marissa VandenBerg had a double, single and three runs scored with two runs batted in.
Rachel Evavold was the winning pitcher and allowed five runs on ten hits with one walk and three strikeouts in six innings.
Tianna Top came on in relief and allowed one hit and recorded the save.
