Northwestern defeats Dordt 1-0
HOW IT HAPPENED
The visiting Northwestern Red Raiders made the most of limited chances Thursday afternoon to defeat Dordt College 1-0 in GPAC Quarterfinal Round play and advanced to the semifinal round on Tuesday.
Northwestern got a goal in the 83rd minute of play when Madison Bertman received a pass just inside the box and changed direction for a left-footed kick that got past a drawn out goalkeeper and found the right half of the goal.
Dordt’s efforts in the final seven minutes were thwarted as Northwestern turned away several shots.
Dordt had a 17-3 shots on goal edge and an overall 25-12 shots advantage.
Belle Helgerson was in goal for Dordt and had two saves in the loss.
Naomi Schimmel secured 17 saves for Northwestern.
Dordt had a 6-4 corner kick advantage.
Dordt ends the season with a 12-7 mark while Northwestern advances in tournament play 11-5-3.
