Briar Cliff defeats Dordt 3-0 (25-12, 25-16, 25-16)
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Dordt College Defender men’s volleyball season came to a close on Friday afternoon in the league tournament hosted by Missouri Baptist in St. Louis, Missouri. The Defenders faced Briar Cliff and lost a 3-0 decision to the Chargers.
Dordt started set one and played evenly with the Chargers before a four point run turned an 8-8 tie into a 12-8 lead for Briar Cliff. Dordt never got closer than three the rest of the set and fell 25-12.
Dordt again had a measure of success in the second set and had a 9-7 lead after Shavon Barker registered a kill. Three Briar Cliff points forged a 10-9 lead and Cobi Jones had a kill to tie the set at 10-10. Briar Cliff then went on a 9-1 run to take control of the set and won by an eventual 25-16 margin.
The second-seeded Briar Cliff Chargers then controlled set three from the start and won by a 25-16 gap.
Ben Tiemersma led the Defenders with eight kills and had six digs.
Alex Durbin had seven kills and recorded a block assist.
Tyler Postma put up 22 assists and had five digs.
Mark Schussler had a team high eight digs.
Dordt concludes the season 2-18.
Briar Cliff advances to play in the league semifinals on Saturday morning.
