Briar Cliff defeats Dordt 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-12)
HOW IT HAPPENED
The number-three rated Briar Cliff Chargers beat Dordt College in men’s volleyball action 3-0 on Tuesday night in Sioux Center.
In the final home match of the season for Dordt the Chargers controlled most of the match with a .337 kill efficiency.
The Chargers scored the first three points of the match and led 11-6. The Defenders were able to get within four on several occasions but lost the first set by an eventual 25-15 verdict.
Set two saw Dordt score a pair of points to start off of kills by Tyler Postma and Kal Bryan. The Chargers overtook the hosts at the 4-3 mark and Dordt battled to tie it at 8-8 on a block by Cobi Jones and Bryan. The Defenders stayed as close as 11-10 but the Chargers slowly pulled away and won 25-17, scoring three straight points to cap the set.
A five point run by the Chargers to start the third set pushed them to a 25-12 win to take the match.
Dordt was led by Bryan, Alex Durbin and Ben Tiemersma with six kills each.
Postma had 17 assists in the loss and Jones had two service aces with six digs. Mark Schussler also had six digs.
The Defenders had 20 kills and scored five points on blocks.
Briar Cliff was led by Peyton Schirman’s 20 kills and the Chargers had 45 kills.
Both teams had two service aces.
Dordt is now 1-8 in the league while Briar Cliff is 9-3 in the league.
Dordt will travel to Lindenwood Belleville and Missouri Baptist on Friday and Saturday this week before concluding the regular season against Morningside on Tuesday, April 3.
