Ottawa (Kansas) defeats Dordt 3-1 (27-29, 25-14, 25-17, 25-18)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dordt battled highly regarded Ottawa in a Senior Night contest on Saturday, March 24 at Sioux Center but lost a 3-1 decision after winning set one of the contest.
Ottawa controlled much of the first set and led 24-22 when a Ben Tiemersma kill started the Defender rally. Dordt eventually tied it at 25-25 and won the set 29-27 with a kill by Alex Durbin and an ace serve by Cobi Jones forging the two point victory.
Set two had the Braves push out from an 8-6 lead to 17-10 and won 25-14 in a set that featured three ties after set one had 21.
Dordt led set three 9-8 after a block for a point by Tyler Postma and Kal Bryan but the Braves went on a 10-0 run to lead 18-9 and won 25-17.
The Defenders had another spirited effort in set four and tied the set at 13-13. The Defenders were unable to sustain the energy and allowed four points in a row and were never closer than 20-18 the rest of the set and fell 25-18.
Dordt hit for a .059 kill efficiency with 33 kills while Ottawa had a .161 kill efficiency with 53 kills.
Ben Tiemersma and Alex Durbin each had nine kills in the loss and Durbin had 10 digs.
Tyler Postma put up 30 assists with ten digs and was in on six block assists.
Cobi Jones had six kills and 11 digs and Mark Schussler had a team high 12 digs.
Shavon Barker was in on team high nine block assists.
Dordt is now 1-8 in league play and will host Briar Cliff on Tuesday night, March 27 in its final home match of the season.
Ottawa is now 20-5 overall and 10-2 in the league.
