Trinity Christian defeats Dordt 3-0 (25-14, 25-22, 25-18)


The Dordt Defender men’s volleyball team was unable to overcome a slow start and fell in non-conference play to the Trinity Christian Trolls on Friday evening in Palos Heights, Illinois.

The Defenders dropped set one 25-14 after getting down 16-4 to start the set.

The Defenders seemed to recover in the second set and led 11-9 after a Trinity Christian attack error. The score was tied 13-13 as part of a 6-0 run by the Trolls and the Defenders mustered a got back to within 22-21 on an Alex Durbin Kill and 23-22 on an Austen Scammon block but the Defenders were unable to turn the corner in falling 25-22.

Dordt battled in again in set three with eight ties up to 13-13. The hosts took the lead for good at 14-13 and went on to control the rest of the set and won 25-18.


Ben Tiemersma led Dordt with eight kills.

Alex Durbin had four kills Tyler Postma had 14 assists.

Cobi Jones got to five digs and Austen Scammon had seven.

Dordt was limited to -.047 kill efficiency while the hosts hit .143.

Trinity Christian had a 34-19 kills advantage and had eight blocks to Dordt’s seven.

Dordt will face Robert Morris on Saturday along with Cincinnati Christian at Arlington Heights, Illinois.
